Yaesu "System Fusion" digital/analog voice repeater

Yaesu USA VP Dennis Motschenbacher K7BV gave a presentation at the 2013 TAPR DCC.  He gave details about the new Yaesu DR-1 digital/analog voice repeater for the Yaesu FT-1DR and FTM-400DR radios.  It looked like Dennis was a little of his depth considering the technical TAPR DCC audience but you can certainly tell that Dennis was excited about the new repeater offering coming from Yaesu.

The System Fusion product bulletin can be downloaded here

The DR-1 certainly looks interesting.  Colour touch LCD screen, dual band (2m and 70cm), 50W output power.

I'm waiting on more technical details on the Yaesu over-the-air digital protocol and how the HRI-200 internet linking will work. I would hope that linking will be user controllable as Dplus, Dextra, DCS is for D-Star and IRLP/Echolink/AllStarLink for FM people.  No word on if the concept of reflectors will be a reality for System Fusion.

The C4FM modulation probably means that it will be possible to build modems to work with System Fusion and potentially have home-brew Hot Spots as well.  It would be nice if Yaesu not only allowed this but actively encouraged it.

Will this be an attempt to have a share out of D-Star like they did with wires and echo-link? Although I am in favor of interoperability;it remains to see some results, lots of ground to be covered!

ICOM maybe at this time the king of the Digital Voice communication scene, however missed the part of providing means to use FM analog and Digital voice on the same system automatically.
The question remains, is it affordable?
If the pricing is chosen wisely, by Yaesu, it might as well become a major player in digital voice communication.
On the other hand, ICOM might try the strategy to lower their price?
As many of us know, at least the ones that were tinkering with the idea of setting up a digital repeater, ICOM is steep in cost when using equipment off their shelf.
It's just my thought abot the Yeasu DR-1 repeater.

We have our HRI-200 connected to allstar. The way we have it setup allstar can be controlled via the Yaesu wires-x system via DTMF. Also the allstar system can control the wires-x via DTMF.

I haven't been a fan of yaesu however this system seems to work very well.

If anyone wants a demo connect to the WD4SCD repeater via echolink or via allstar.

We have many modes all linked... D-Star, echolink, irlp, mototrbo, and wires-x all living happily together. Soon to add dPMR to that list also.
